  • History

Cedar Key Bed & Breakfast, courtyard

This historic bed and breakfast was built in 1880 for the Eagle Pencil Company's superintendent. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Cedar Key is the second oldest city in Florida. This tropical region features a historic seaport with several fine seafood restaurants and interesting gift shops and art galleries. In the 1800's Cedar Key was a bustling city of nearly 4000 souls connected to it's sister city of Fernandina Beach via Henry Flagler's and David Levy Yulee's (Florida's first senator) railroad. Cedar Key was known for its cedar which was used for making pencils. Eagle Cedar Mill and the Eberhardt Faber mill were the prominent pencil mills in Cedar Key. Today, Cedar Key's primary industries are clam farming and tourism.
